City Library Spatial Critique - Photos

Photos taken from the Wellington City Library to be used with the Critique Notes

 Library Main Entrance

Information board outside main entrance

After going through the double doors you are greeted by a lobby before entering into the main library itself.

Cafe access

The space directly in front of the next set of doors. The entrance features an automatic barrier door that forces people away from the entrance. This is good to keep the flow but with a T junction facing new arrivals it can be confusing where to go to get out of the way.

Fiction reading section

Level 1 Access

Directory of where to find different section

While walking upstairs 2 large poles broke the flow between the sets of escalators. People will have to go around them instead of the shortest route

Carpet is the same patterns and style as seen in other public buildings and buses.

Single seat work spaces

The book shelves are not set to any kind of grid. This means that finding your way around the aisles can be confusing and finding the exit when you are done is not as easy as it should be

Pathfinder booklets were found but not near the entrance to any of the floors. This was found on the 1st floor in the back corner

Another map but doesn't offer much more information about where what you are looking for

2nd floor is for directories, databases and archives
