Massey Library Spatial Critique Notes

Okay so this library pretty much fixes most immediate issues we had with the city library

- Single door security
- Enough space upon entrance to observe and gain your bearing on the space
- The first floor is basically a study/research area with many computers which makes sense for a university, but also computers do provide a lot of similar services that traditional libraries do.
- This building works with its pillars to divide the space up into sections being very easy to read.
- The building is also skeletal in showing a lot of the systems inside the building but the ceiling height is at a more comfortable height with acoustic padding in some areas.
- Still a lot of light as necessary but easier on eyes and nice and cohesive.
- A lot of workspace and with visible private bookable rooms (which the city library did have, but not so obvious)
- Upstairs where all the books are the shelving was very readable with timbre shelving, bold letters and a 'highway' to direct the flow of browsing.
- The colours bright green and orange are used to highlight study and action spaces divided up enough with greys and whites.
- Good balance of social study and singular study areas. Same goes for enclosed/open spaces.

Only main critique is on first entrance it is not so clear that all the books are on the top floor.
