Visual Precedents - Massey Albany, Otago, and Soundcloud

Library New Adults environment
The indoor space, specially designed for 18 - 29 year olds to enjoy the New Adults
books AND all of the library’s other amazing facilities.
Linking into the deliverable above I looked into current indoor spaces that cater to a similar idea as we're wanting to. Making a space specially for 18 - 29 year olds that will be able to be used for a number of activities; reading, studying, collaborating, and creativity.

Massey University Albany Library
Coming across this by chance on a YouTube vlog classed as a 'great place to study' I thought these large pod type study areas could be incorporated into the New Adult section. Obviously the library probably doesn't have the room for as many as these at this size but that doesn't mean we cannot incorporate the idea into our plans.

The 'shield' could incorporate bookshelves for example similar to the example below.

Otago University Library
Otago also offer a type of secluded study collaboration space, these however are attached to the wall rather than freestanding.

SoundCloud Offices
An office shown in Nick & Nick's presentation. The congregation and secluded spaces stood out to me as something we could use as an influence. Obviously we won't be able to work with such a large area as they have but the way they incorporate a small space for many learning and working ways is something we can work with. The first photo below for example the central piece incorporates both comfortable reading areas or chilling while working areas and also desk studying working areas with lots of access to power. Maybe for the library to provide a sense of privacy the area between the two could have a coloured glass wall (mentioned here) that can be seen through so wont close off the area or make it seem small but would make it seem separate.

The above photo incorporates a large open space with comfortable chairs and atmosphere, while also having a meeting/collaboration space which provides the idea of separation but is still included in the entire space, and also smaller comfy nooks for private readers.
