Initial brainstorming and ideating for the Digital Space

According to Bowden Media (http://www.bowenmedia.com/top-5-web-trends-for-2015/) the top 5 web trends for 2015 are Mobile Focus, Interactive Scrolling, Flat Design, Single Page sites, and Clean Simple layout. With this in mind we brainstormed the idea of a parallax website. Parallax websites are visually appealing and extremely effective at catching the eye of website visitors, it enables us to create an engaging timeline website that guides visitors to a call to action. Our call to action would be to get 20-29 year olds to sign up to the library and get involved with the New Adult fiction (and other aspects of the library). Infinite scrolling cuts down on web site loading times which will be good on mobile devices and allow more engagement rather and a lower bounce rate. Parallax will incorporate the fourth top trend of single page sites as all content will be on the one page again creating easy navigation, condensed attractive content and mobile friendly which according to Bowden results in 124% better usability.

Our initial idea sparks from these two images; the power of books can explode your mind and spark your creativity. Using the scrolling parallax mechanism we will be able to show the explosion through scroll. The way we display this at the moment is unsure; whether we use paint like the top example, words, or just simply a colour explosion.

I've broken down our idea into sections of information that should be incorporated in the website.

• Intro to NA fiction
• Book recommendations (general at the moment)
• Search bar
• Blog links
• Social media (hashtags eg #NewAdultWelly)

These will be discussed at our next meeting if anything more needs including or excluding however for the moment I've continued with these six.

We've (along with the other groups it seems) has been thinking that the yellow of the Wellington City Council colour scheme is the same for the WCL however this isn't so. The problem is their colour scheme isn't integrated throughout all pages and social media. Their website and all pages through the website including blogs are the purple and green scheme however the logo on social media (which doesn't feature anywhere on the website) is a yellow and blue. Their advertising over social media either doesn't relate to any scheme or it relates to the city council scheme, especially if it's attached to the Absolutely Positively Wellington program.
For the website, and some of our other deliverables, we need to decide which scheme to use and/or use our own new colours and revamp their colour scheme entirely throughout their whole range of platforms.

Taking the best parts from the quick wireframes I came up with this initial design. Obviously it's only an initial design and is lacking all imagery and visual qualities.

As we're wanting to go with a parallax scrolling design at the moment I separated each section and worked out the layering system.

3. Recommendations
4. Search
5. Library blogs
6. Social media

So far from group feedback this design has been approved of but I will bring it up in the meeting tomorrow along with a quick animated mockup to show how it would scroll in case there's any further comments.

Scrolling inspiration

Numero 10 - The way the black pattern overlays the last page could be good, useful with the brain creative explosion idea. 

Boy-Coy - The overlay is more subtle and 3d in this one but still could be good with our design.

TEDxGUC - The simplest way to overlay, looks clean, professional, and obviously a different section with the black and white.
